Daily Devotional: Psalms 34:1-7

Ps 34:1-7

1 I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. 2 My soul will boast in the LORD; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. 3 Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. 4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame. 6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

James 1:2-5

2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. What a joy to be able to spend time in praise and worship with others who love the Lord. But what a joy it is to just be with them and to share their sorrows and trials or to rejoice with them in their blessings. In this we laugh together and we cry together, knowing that God is with us and Jesus is in our midst all the time.

How many times can each of us say with the Psalmist that “this poor man called and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of his troubles”? So often we look back and realize just how the Lord has been with us and has carried us through some trial or hardship. It is then that we learn the meaning of trust in God and our faith is strengthened. It is in this perseverance that we realize we cannot and do not carry our own weight but it is God who graciously carries it for us.

Equipped with these experiences in our lives we are fitted to help others in their struggles and trials. So together we move forward and thus carry one another’s burdens as we fulfill the royal law of love. It is sad indeed that so many Christians want to do it alone instead of sharing their problems and feelings and allowing others to help them with their loads. In doing this they lose the help others can give and deprive them of carrying out the law of Christ in their lives.

Thank you God for giving Jesus to live, die and be raised for me so my sin can be forgiven. Thank you for allowing me to be your child and knowing that Jesus is my Savior, but also my brother and is always my friend. Thank you Lord for putting so many Christian friends in my life and allowing me to share so much with them. I want to be a help to each of them as they help me each day. Please be with those who are struggling and have a hard time being faithful to you. Give them your strength and increase their faith. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
