Daily Devotional: Psalms 27:11-14

Ps 27:11-14

11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. 13 I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.

2 Tim 2:8-10

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

As Joshua prepared to take over the leadership of Israel and to replace Moses, God told him to be strong and courageous. He repeatedly told him to put his trust in God and not in himself, his armies or the nations around him and he would win the victories over his enemies. As we prepare for our daily battles with Satan and the things this life can throw at us, we are told to trust in God and he will give us the strength to overcome. Paul said he could do all things through Jesus Christ who gave him strength and we can live with this same confidence.

We are told to live without anxiety or fear of tomorrow. As we learn to trust in God and live in his power we will rid ourselves of many of the worries that plague us each day. Jesus said that each day has enough trouble of its own. So when we worry about things, we are just adding unnecessary stress to our lives that causes doubts and fear without doing anything positive for us.

As we face a new day, let each of us determine to give our cares to the Lord and as we follow his will we will have joy and peace. We will pray for wisdom to do what we can do and then when we have done this, we will wait on the Lord for the results. We will not fill our minds with what might happen or regrets of what might have been but rather with that which is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. And then the God of peace will be with us.

Heavenly Father, As I am overwhelmed with the cares and worries of this world, help me look to you and turn them over to you. Keep me from trying to carry the weight of the world on my own shoulders because I know I am not able to bear it all. You made me and you can care for me. You created all things and you alone can control all things – even the things in my life that cause me stress. Help me not meddle in the affairs of others but do what I can to help bear their burdens when I have the opportunity to do so. I pray in the name of Jesus.
