Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:7:11

Ps 10:7-11

7 His mouth is full of curses and lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue. 8 He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent, watching in secret for his victims. 9 He lies in wait like a lion in cover; he lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net. 10 His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength. 11 He says to himself, "God has forgotten; he covers his face and never sees.”

2 Peter 3:3-5, 8-9

4 They will say, "Where is this 'coming' he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water…. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Imagine a student in class being told there will be a mid-term exam but the date has not yet been set. After a few weeks the date is still not set so the student decides that since it has not yet happened, it will not happen. So he/she quits reading the assignments and quits listening to the teacher because they are not really going to be tested. Now we would say that is a very foolish person.

God has declared that there will be a day of judgment. While he has not told us the date yet, he has many times told us it is coming and it will be final. Yet we live in a world of people who say that since Jesus has not come, he is not coming. But just because we have not seen it yet does not mean we will not. In the verses above, Peter explains that God is not bound by what we call time. God lives in eternity without regard to hours, days, weeks, months or even years. Jesus said that God is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Not that he “was” their God but he “is” their God; now and always. God sees and he has not forgotten. Judgement is coming for both the wicked and those who love the Lord. Are you ready?

O Lord God, giver of life and ruler of all things, I humbly ask you to give me more faith to trust you in all things. Fill me with your Spirit so I can be molded in your image and be like your Son in every way. Instill in me a heart of love and mercy so I will be forgiving to others. You have taken me through so many rough times and I thank you and ask you to please continue to be with me. Please be with those who are hurting and struggling to keep their faith. Empower them with your Spirit to face their challenges and remain faithful. I pray in the name of Jesus.
