Daily Devotional: Psalms 6:6-10

Ps 6:6-10

6 I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. 8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping. 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

Luke 22:41-44

41 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."  43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44 And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Heb 5:7

7 During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

“My Jesus knows when I am lonely, He knows each pain, He sees each tear; He understands each lonely heartache, He understands because He cares. When other friends seem to forget me, When skies are dark, when hope is gone; By faith I feel His arms about me, And hear Him say, ‘You’re not alone’” (Mosic Lister)

He had to be made like his brothers in every way because he was one of us. He was tempted in every way we are today and yet he was able to never give in and sin. Now he sits at the throne of God to speak on our behalf and plead our case before the Father. He is our Savior, our Lord but also our brother and friend. What a friend we have in Jesus! Since he is for us, who can be against us?

There is never a moment in our lives when our troubles are too big for God. We may not be able to explain exactly how God takes care of us, comforts us or gives us strength but we can know for sure that he is with us every minute and every step of the way. God is love and is the God of all comforts – our strength.

O God, my shield, my hope and my strength, I come to you with thanksgiving for all you have done for me in my life. You have taken me through some rocky crags, some slippery slopes, some tumultuous waves and some bitter enemies and you have indeed taken me through them all. I confess I have wanted to quit and have often strayed from your way but you have continued to forgive me and prod me in the right direction. You have held me in my times of sorrow and grief and then given me wisdom to go on. Thank you in the name of Jesus.
