Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:6-9
Ps 33:6-9
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.
Rom 1:19-21
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So, they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
I once heard a renowned historian say that every generation thinks that they are smarter and more advanced than any previous generation has been. Yet, there have been countless feats of mankind that cannot be duplicated today if using the tools available to the ones who accomplished the feat (such as the pyramids or the embalming of the ancient Egyptians). We have sent people to the moon and brought them back alive! This is a tremendous accomplishment!
But all of this pales in light of creation, which is the only reasonable explanation for all that exists today. The concept of creation demands intelligent design, and this demands an intelligent designer. But is also requires that this designer have the power to make everything from nothing. The only logical conclusion is that there is a God who has the wisdom and the power to create. The Biblical story tells how God spoke it all into existence in only six days. He is God indeed!
If we arrive at the conclusion that God exists and that he made everything, including us, then we must conclude that we are accountable to him. It is this last step that keeps so many so-called wise people from accepting the reality of God in their thinking. They are not willing to subject themselves to God and his way for us to have eternal life. They are without excuse and their thinking is futile.
O Lord God, all wise and all powerful, it is with deep humility that I come to you with thanksgiving for all you have done for me in my life. Thank you for allowing me to be born in the time and place, and to the family that you chose for me. As I look back over my life, I am so thankful for all the times you have guided me in your providence and have made opportunities available to me. Thank you for the wonderful people you have put into my life. Thank you for Jesus who makes it possible for me to be assured of eternal life with you. In his name I pray.
