Daily Devotional: Psalms 30:1-7

Ps 30:1-7

I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me. O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit. Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.” By your favor, O Lord, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.

1 Thess 5:16-22

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

The Lord is good. He will never leave us, nor will he forsake those who remain faithful to him. As long as we turn our face to him, he will never turn his back on us. As we face our trials in this life, he will always be with us and help us through whatever it is that we face. It is because of this that we can rejoice always, and in him we can find peace that the world can never understand. Praise the Lord!

To love the Lord with heart and soul is the goal of our lives. To put him first, above all else, is never an easy thing to for us to do. We get distracted by the glitter of the world around us. We get side-tracked by the worries and the cares of life and taking care of our families. We enjoy sports, or we like to shop, or we enjoy hiking in the woods, and we let these harmless things control us and our priorities.

It is easy to put our trust in the things that we can see and touch. After all, we do have to pay the bills, we have to provide for our families, we need to plan for the future, so we pursue a relentless rat race that consumes our minds and lives. But God takes away our stress when we trust him. He provides assurance that things will be better in the morning, if we depend on him. Most of all, in Jesus we can be confident that eternal life is ours and that we will be with him forever!

O Lord God, thank you for your love for me. Thank you for your mercy shown to me in your patience. Thank you for your grace in providing a way of salvation that comes with assurance that gives me peace in this life as I wrestle with all the trials and fears. Thank you for Jesus, my Savior, my Lord, my friend, and my brother. I want to be like him and have a servant heart, so open my eyes to the many opportunities to serve others. I pray to you O Father, in Jesus’ name.
