Daily Devotional: Psalms 27:5-6

Ps 27:5-6

For he will hide me in his shelter in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent; he will lift me high upon a rock. And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

Eph 5:18-21

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Sing and shout for joy, the Lord has delivered us from the bondage of sin! Sing praises to his name because he has lifted us from the miry clay pits that ensnare us and has put our feet on the solid Rock, which is Jesus! Since we have been saved by the blood of Jesus, we must use our time wisely and not be filled with wine or use our energy to serve ourselves and the sin around us.

The Lord has never promised to lift us out of the battles in life, but he does promise to give us the victory over all of our enemies and the temptations that are designed to entangle us. He will give us wisdom to know how to make the right decisions, decisions based on his word. His wisdom is pure, peaceable, gentle, and always open to reason. He leads us so that we will be full of mercy and good fruits in his service, fruits that are impartial and sincere.

Peace in our hearts, peace in our lives, peace with God and with those around us, all play an important part in the plan of God. His wisdom yields peace as we seek to make peace. Paul said we are to be at peace with all people, as much as it depends on us. Jealously, strife, and discord are from the devil and destroy peace.

When we turn everything over to God and depend on him, we can have peace that is unknown to the world around us. We do not have to worry about anything or fret over what may happen. As the old song says: “He’s got the whole world in his hand”. Nothing is too big or too hard for him to control, so enjoy his peace!

O Lord God, thank you for making it possible for me to have peace in my heart and in my life. I need your wisdom so I can choose to have a positive attitude about life and what lies ahead. However, help me always remember that being positive is not about what I can do or what I can accomplish but is about trusting you and about your strength in my life. Give me faith to know that you will work all things in my life for good (not just my pleasure but eternal good). Use me to bring peace to others as I rejoice in the Lord. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
