Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:7-10

Ps 24:7-10

Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory!

Matt 28:18-20

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus is the King of glory; he is the Lord of the heavenly hosts! He is above all things, and he sustains all things! One day every knee will bow down to him as the Lord and the final judge, and that includes you and me. We can choose to be on his side and bow before him now and live for him now so that we will have eternal life, or we can refuse and be eternally lost.

The battle between Satan and God came to earth in the Garden of Eden when Satan tempted Eve to eat the forbidden fruit. She made the wrong choice and persuaded her husband to go along. By eating this fruit sin entered the world and because of sin, death entered the world. Along with death came all the evils of sickness, disease, sorrow, and the sins of greed, murder, hate, gossip, strife and all the others that pervade our world. The battle has since raged for our souls!

In the history of mankind on earth, the battle has at times seemed to go in favor of the devil and at times it has swung the other way. Satan was winning in the days of Noah, but God put an end to sin on earth. After the flood, it didn’t take long before sin reappeared. When Jesus died on the cross, it seemed that the devil was finally victorious over God and his heavenly hosts. But God knew that the devil in his pride had played into his hand. Just as he had prophesied, Jesus rose from the grave, victorious forever over sin and death! We now know the end of the story and we can choose sides for eternity because Jesus is the King of glory!

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, thank you for providing a way of salvation for me, even though I do not deserve it. Thank you for revealing the gospel and showing me the way to eternal life in Jesus. Thank you for giving me parents and family that have always taught me the importance of living for you. Help me live my Christianity in every part of my life daily; in all I do and all I say. Make me a servant just like Jesus, my Lord and my Master. In his name I pray.
