Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:1-6
Ps 24:1-6
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
Jude 14-16
It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.
Basically, there are two types of people; there are those who love themselves and there are those who love the Lord. Those who love themselves live for their own desires with no regard for others. Those who love the Lord live to please him and serve others. God is love and his children wear his badge of love. Their lives are exemplified by honesty, morality, speech that is designed to lift up others, and a constantly positive attitude. Their goal is to honor Jesus and the Father.
But the world is filled with malcontents, people who grumble and complain, who gossip and spread strife. In a world that is looking for inner peace, most people reject Jesus and thus forfeit the very thing for which they search. It is only when we put our trust in the Lord and seek to do his will that we can find the peace that surpasses comprehension. Selfish living leads to trouble. The devil would have us believe that it brings happiness but actually the opposite is true. This is why Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Joy is found in serving, in helping, in encouraging and in putting Jesus first in our lives.
O Mighty God, all wise and all-powerful creator, I humbly come to you knowing that I have nothing to offer you except my heart and my life. You have given your Son for me to make it possible for me to even come in your presence, before your throne of grace; and I thank you with all my heart! Help me have the servant attitude of Jesus so I will always consider others better than myself. Increase my faith. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Use me to lift up those who are struggling. I pray in the name of Jesus.
