Daily Devotional: Proverbs 2:20-22

Prov 2:20-22

So, you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of the righteous. For the upright will inhabit the land, and those with integrity will remain in it, but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the treacherous will be rooted out of it.

Eph 6:1-4

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

When we follow the wisdom of God in our lives, we will avoid many of the things that make life so difficult for many. Honesty is the best policy in every situation we face. Being kind is never wrong. When Paul talks about the fruit of the Spirit in us, he lists love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and then he adds that there is no law against these things. It is always right to do what is right and it is never right to do what is wrong.

The blessings of God, both physical and spiritual belong only to those who seek to follow him and his word. Many want to talk about the love of God as though he has promised to give us all we want, when we want it, even when we reject him and refuse to live for him. John says that the way that we know that we have the love of God perfected in us is when we obey his commandments. While we do not earn our salvation by obedience, our love for God and our acceptance of his grace demands that we obey him and allow his Spirit to work in us daily.

Rom 8:5-8

For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

O God, my heavenly Father, help me love you with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind, and all my strength. Keep me from every false way and keep me from ever thinking that I am the source of my own strength or the source of my own wisdom. Increase my faith in you. Use me in your service. Forgive me when I do wrong. Fill me with love and kindness towards others. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and my Savior.
