Daily Devotional: Proverbs 2:9-15

Prov 2:9-15

[If you seek wisdom] Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.

1 Cor 15:33-34

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.

Many of our problems in life come from our making bad decisions, which often means that we have done something wrong. When we follow the will of God, we will find that we avoid most of the difficulties that so many face on a daily basis.

Being kind and treating others as we would want to be treated helps us get along with almost everyone. When we consider the interests of others ahead of our own, we find that we are at peace with ourselves and with others. Instead of being greedy, we realize that it is more blessed to give than to receive. If we leave vengeance up to God and do not seek our own revenge, we find a joy that the world does not know. And almost nothing will free us like learning to forgive.

Do not be deceived, we are all influenced by our constant companions. Young people face a great deal of peer pressure, but they are not the only ones who face it. In fact, as I look back over my life, I think that this peer pressure grows even greater as we become adults and try to get ahead in life. Our co-workers exert a huge influence on how we act, how we talk, and even how we think. This is why the wise man warns his son to stay away from ungodly and immoral people.

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, holy and reverend is your name in all the earth. Your majesty is far above my ability to even imagine. Your greatness is beyond my mind to comprehend. Thank you for revealing your wisdom in so many ways to us and thank you for showing us the importance of wisdom. Help me fill my mind with those things that are good, wholesome, and right in your sight. Open my heart and my mind to soak up your wisdom and to put it into practice, every day of my life. Be with your people that we can have unity of spirit and that we can all show the love of Jesus to the world around us. In his name I pray.
