Daily Devotional: Psalms 150:1-6

Ps 150:1-6

Praise the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness. Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the strings and flute, praise him with the clash of cymbals, praise him with resounding cymbals. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

Eph 1:3, 7-8

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ… In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

Rom 1:20-21, 24a

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities — his eternal power and divine nature — have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile, and their foolish hearts were darkened… Therefore, God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts…

We can acknowledge God, give thanks to him, and praise him as God, or we can ignore him and pretend that he does not exist. But remember, “the fool says in his heart that there is no God.” On a night that the moon is bright, it is not unusual for a dog to howl at the moon. It seems to bother the dog that the moon is so bright, and it does not go away. But no matter how loud or how long the dog howls and barks, the moon does not change or disappear. It remains the same.

God is God. Truth is truth. The sun and the moon will eventually disappear, but God remains as God and his truth will remain as truth. We can ignore him, we can protest against him and his existence, we can contradict his revealed truth, but in the end, he does not change or go away. We will all answer to him for our lives.

We can acknowledge God and accept Jesus Christ and have our sins forgiven. We owe him our lives, so we serve him, and we praise him as God. Praise the Lord!

O Lord God, I do praise you and I give you thanks for all I am and all I have in this life. It is only by your grace that I was born to the parents you chose for me, in the time and place you selected. You have given me every opportunity that has come into my life. I know that I have failed to properly use all you have supplied to me, so I ask you to continue to forgive me, help me see my sin, to acknowledge it, and then turn from it. You alone are God and Jesus is Lord! In his name I pray.
