Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:13b-16

Ps 145:13b-16

The Lord is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made. The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

Matt 6:31-33

So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Just a reminder that you are not in control of what happens to you today or any other day. You (nor I) can control the world, the governments, the weather, the climate, the traffic, or even whether another person is nice or hateful to us. We can be patient and kind and still have someone to be rude and ugly back to us. It may be that today one of us hears the “cancer” word or has a heart attack.

What we can control is our faith in God. With faith in him, there is nothing that can conquer us or defeat us. We can overcome in Jesus Christ our Lord. He loves us and he will give us what we need, when we need it, and in exactly the right measure needed for our good. When we join his ranks, we will be victorious.

We can control how we respond to the things that happen to us. We can make the choice to “rejoice in the Lord always” or we can choose to let things get to us and be rude, unkind, grumpy, and even angry to what happens to us today. This is our choice, and we can choose to control our emotions, our speech, and our actions.

To do this we must let the Spirit live in us and work in us. It is by his power in us that we can withstand the onslaughts of the world and of the devil. When we let him have his way, the result will be that we learn to love as God loves, we will be filled with joy and peace. We will develop patience so that we will be able to be kind to others, even when they are unkind to us. Then, our lives will be filled with goodness, gentleness and we will have self-control, even in bad situations. We do not have the power to overcome Satan on our own, but the Spirit does and will.

O Lord God, fill me with your Spirit to a new measure today so I can be more like Jesus in every way. Increase my faith so I will stay out of your way. Use me and all you have given me to be what you want me to become, so I can accomplish the mission you have given me to fulfil. Help me always remember that you get all the credit and the glory for anything good that I am able to do. Use me to help others live for you. Be with our nation and give us leaders who will respect and follow your will so we can live in peace. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
