Daily Devotional: Psalms 142:1-7

Ps 142:1-7

I cry aloud to the Lord; I lift up my voice to the Lord for mercy. I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble. When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way. In the path where I walk men have hidden a snare for me. Look to my right and see; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life. I cry to you, O Lord; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.

Rom 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

God knows best. He knows just what we need, in what dosage, at what intervals, when to start and when to stop. Jesus has been here, and he has been through what we are facing, so he can feel our pain, our grief, our abuse, and whatever else we feel. He also knows how to help us rejoice. How to always rejoice!

If you really believe in a place called heaven, then you understand that it is a home of eternal bliss. There is no time, so it never ends. Heaven is referred to in a number of ways, but one thing is clear and that is that God on his throne and Jesus by his side is the center focal point. It will always be day, no night ever, but there will be no sun because it will be lit up by the glory of God. There will be no sickness, no death, no crying, no sorrow, no doubt, no worry, only joy.

Heaven with Jesus and God is what is good for those who have been called. This is the purpose for which we are called, to be with him forever. God gave his best, his only unique Son to die in our place so we can have eternal life with him. It is only logical that now he will do all that needs to be done for us to reach that goal if we will only live for him. He has promised to work all things for our good, but this good is not this world or its pleasures, its possessions, its power, or even the friendships and relationships we love. Heaven is what is good for us who love him.

O Lord God, open my eyes to see heaven in all of its beauty and glory. Help me read the word pictures you have revealed to me and let them sink in so I will see just how wonderful heaven will be. Open my ears so I can hear the beauty of the innumerable heavenly hosts, along with all the saints, as we are singing around your throne. Use me to help others along the way as they seek to live for you and reach this same goal. Give me patience. Increase my faith. Open my eyes to see the good in things and people and not be negative. I pray in Jesus’ name.
