Daily Devotional: Psalms 130:1-8

Ps 130:1-8

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness; therefore, you are feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word, I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

Col 1:13-14

For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Redeemed! How I love to proclaim it! Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb! What a blessing to be able to sing praise to God that we have been redeemed from all of our sins. The more we realize that this world is not our home, the more we will rejoice in being forgiven. The more we understand that our redemption is by God’s grace and is not our own doing, the greater the blessing in our minds.

The redeemed are the spiritual Israel of God, the descendants of Abraham by faith. We are his people, the nation of God’s people. Jesus is our King, and he is Lord of lords. Jesus taught his disciples to pray that the kingdom would come, and it has indeed come. There are no geographic boundaries, there are no ethnic divisions, there are national borders. The kingdom of God is within us, it is us; it is those who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God.

It is now our responsibility to live like we belong to God, to be like Jesus. This begins in our hearts, which have been changed by the Spirit living in us. We still live in this world, and we are to rejoice in each new day that the Lord gives to us. But our first priority is to live up to the glory of God, to honor him. In doing this, we will help others along their way. We will, like Jesus, go about doing good. We will share the good news of redemption with those who do not know Jesus. The love of God shining from us will draw people to Jesus like a magnet. Give thanks about everything as we pray to God about everything. Be anxious for nothing.

O Lord God, what a sublime goal for my life; to be just like Jesus as I imitate you and your love for me! Thank you for loving me and for redeeming me from sin. I know that I do not deserve to be forgiven but because of your tender mercy, you have extended your grace to me. Thank you for giving Lakely healing and I ask you to please continue to be with her as she regains her strength. Give your people the wisdom and strength to oppose all of the wickedness in our society, even when it is legalized and accepted by so many as normal. I pray in the name of Jesus.
