Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:169-176

Ps 119:169-176      Taw

May my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your word. May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise. May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees. May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous. May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight. Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.

1 Peter 1:3-6

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade — kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

I love my wife. I love my children and my grandchildren. I love my siblings and I love my cousins. They are family. Just yesterday, I was looking at an old picture of my mom and my dad that was probably sixty years old, but it brought back some really fond memories. I was fortunate to grow up in a family that had love for each other (even though we didn’t say it often), and we knew we were loved. I always knew that my mom and my dad would take care of me and my needs.

We are in the family of God and love originated with him. God is love. We take his love and let it fill our hearts and then, it shows to others around us. What peace of mind to know that my brothers and sisters love me and will take care of my needs, whatever they are. The badge of true discipleship is loving each other.

But the love of my mother caused her to spank me at times. It also prompted her to take me to the dentist to be tortured. She was doing what was best for me. God loves us and he will do what is best for us. That may mean some hard times, or even some bad things coming our way, but he will always be with us and get us through it. His love never fails, and nothing can separate us from it.

O Lord my God, it is in awe that I look at all of your creation and see the wonders of your hands. The beauty of the snow on the fields in the winter, the beauty of the flowers in the spring, songbirds in the summer and the vast array of colors in the fall, fills my heart with joy and points out to me your vast wisdom. Thank you for taking care of me when things have been bad in my life. Thank you for all you have given me to enjoy in life. Please be with your people, especially those who are facing persecution and other hardships. I pray in the name of Jesus.
