Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:153-160

Ps 119:153-160      Resh

Look upon my suffering and deliver me, for I have not forgotten your law. Defend my cause and redeem me; preserve my life according to your promise.  Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek out your decrees. Your compassion is great, O Lord; preserve my life according to your laws. Many are the foes who persecute me, but I have not turned from your statutes. I look on the faithless with loathing, for they do not obey your word. See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, O Lord, according to your love. All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.

Heb 4:14-16

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

God’s grace and his mercy goes far beyond just the way of salvation and our sins being forgiven. We are recipients of his love, his mercy, and his grace every day of our lives, even in the air we breathe. But as his children, we are flooded with these in many ways that the world cannot know. He lifts us up when we fall, and he gives us strength when we are weak, and he gives us wisdom when we have no idea how to turn. He heals our broken hearts and takes away our worry.

Paul describes the love of God as great love for us, and says he is rich in mercy, so that he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in kindness toward us. This brings to mind what Paul wrote to the Romans when he said: “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won't he also give us everything else?” When we need him, the Lord is always near!

With Jesus as our friend, we can always approach the Father with confidence. No matter what happens, Jesus cares and he will plead our case for us. When we pray in his name, we are guaranteed that the prayer will be heard by the Father. His compassion is great toward us. What a blessing to be in his family! Hallelujah!

O Lord, my God, creator, and giver of life, I come to you recognizing how unworthy I am, and all the times that I have made a mess of my life. Thank you for your love and your grace in Jesus Christ. Give me wisdom to know how to conduct myself all day today and to know what to say, when to say it, and when to keep my mouth shut. Help me become a better listener. Give your peace and your joy to those who have lost their loved ones. In the name of Jesus my Lord, I pray.
