Daily Devotional: Psalms 108:6-9

Ps 108:6-9

Save us and help us with your right hand so that those you love may be delivered. God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Succoth. Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter. Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph."

Acts 17:24-28

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 'For in him we live and move and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.'

There are some things that are true, and whether we like them or not, they are still true. Some of these have greater and more practical implications than others, but truth is truth. One of the greatest of these truths is that God made us and therefore, we are accountable to him. Since he is the creator (God) and we are his creation, he sets the rules and he determines the boundaries, and we have no right to argue about this. We must respect him as God and submit to his will.

But we do have a choice. We can submit to him as God and serve him or we can reject him or ignore him and live our lives as we please. The problem with this is that we will stand before him in judgment, and we will be held accountable for the way we have lived our lives. Another, and more immediate problem with rejecting God as God and Jesus as our Savior is that living in sin brings all kinds of disastrous things into our lives. True freedom, peace of mind, a sense of fulfilment, knowing how to love and being loved comes only by serving Christ as Lord. Rejecting him brings envy, strife, hatred, and heartlessness, making us slaves to sin. The result of this is eternal separation from God (hell), but by serving him we can have heaven.

O Lord God, giver of life, creator of all things, and sustainer of all you have made, I come to you with thanksgiving that in Jesus Christ I can have my sins forgiven. By faith in him you count me as righteous. As your child you have promised to protect me and watch over me, for which I am ever grateful. Use me to do your will. Give me wisdom to know your will and give me strength to do it. Use me to help others and to be an encouragement to those who are struggling. In Jesus’ name.
