Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:12-15

Ps 105:12-15

When they were but few in number, few indeed, and strangers in it, they wandered from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another. He allowed no one to oppress them; for their sake he rebuked kings: "Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm."

Rom 8:31-32

What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

More than once in the business world, I have seen times that the company had invested in some project or item that did not really seem to do what was intended, but because we had invested so much, we would not abandon it, but kept it going. God has so much invested in us, that no matter how big a mess we become, he is not going to give up on us. He has given his Son to die for us, he raised him from the grave, so what more could he give? If we accept him, he will accept us to be his own, and as his beloved children, he will protect us.

But too often we do not see his protection. We feel abandoned. We think we are all alone. The problems are overwhelming. The pain is too great. The prospects for the future are hopeless. Where is he then? He allows us to suffer for our own good, so that we can learn to trust him more. When Paul prayed repeatedly for God to take away his “thorn”, it was not removed. In fact, God told him that he was not taking it away but that his grace was sufficient. When Paul realized this, he said that in his weakness he was made strong. He learned complete trust.

On another occasion, Paul said that he learned from his own grief and suffering how to help others who were grieving and suffering. He shared the comfort that God had given him with those who needed it now. To do this, we must take our minds off ourselves, and focus on helping others. We learn to be more concerned about their interests, their problems, and their suffering than our own. We accept his grace of comfort, peace, and joy, and then in love, we share it with others who need it, so they too can know and feel his grace of comfort, peace, and joy.

Hallelujah! What a Savior! O Lord God, your Son is all I need in life. Open my heart to accept your grace and to share it with others. Thank you for the love you have shown to me in so many ways. Help me share it with those around me, especially those who I feel do not deserve it or even want it. Thank you for the healing you have given those that are doing better. Thank you for the comfort you give in times of grief. Thank you for the strength you give in times of weakness. Thank you for the assurance you give in times of doubt. In the name of Jesus, I pray.
