Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:19-26

Ps 104:19-26

The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening. How many are your works, O Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. There is the sea, vast and spacious, teeming with creatures beyond number - living things both large and small. There the ships go to and fro, and the leviathan, which you formed to frolic there.

1 Cor 1:20-21, 25

Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe…. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength.

Did you ever doubt the existence of God? Did you ever wish you could see him or at least talk to him and hear him speak in return? I am sure most of us have. He does speak to us and gives us absolute proof that he is real and that he does care about all of his creation. He made it all and he sustains it with his power.

We all live by faith. We believe in a multitude of things that we have never seen or physically experienced with our senses. But real faith is based on evidence. Almost every day something is discovered that shows a new cause and effect, or some unknown relationship is found in nature, or the human body, or the heavenly bodies. And these scientists are proud of their new discoveries. And rightly so.

But God, in his wisdom, designed all of this (and much more that has not yet been found) so that every part, every plant, animal, and solar system works together. He then created all of this from nothing but his word and his power. Foolishness is not believing in God. Foolishness is saying this all happened just by accident, with no intelligent design. The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord!

O Lord God, creator, sustainer, mighty in power and infinite in wisdom, I come to you in humility, realizing that I am nothing but a small part of your creation. My life is only one of millions in a small speck of time, compared to eternity. Yet, you know me, and you love me. Help me let that really sink into my heart and mind. Thank you for sending Jesus to give me forgiveness and the promise of eternal life. Use me to do your will and to share the love of Jesus with others. Be with those who are sick, or hurting, and struggling. I pray in the name of Jesus.
