Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:10-18

Ps 104:10-18

He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate — bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. The trees of the Lord are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys.

Matt 6:25-26

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

“What is man that you are mindful of him?” Jesus said he is the great shepherd, and he knows his sheep and they know him. God takes care of his children. He knows what we need, even before we ask it of him. In fact, he knows what we need even more than we know what we really need, as opposed to what we want or what we think we need. If God sees the animals and takes care of each of them, he certainly can see our needs and supply us abundantly.

What do we need? What we need most of all is a genuine relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. As we come to know the Son, we will know the Father. As we imitate the Son in our lives, we will become more like the Father. This relationship with Jesus includes following him and his word but it is much more than just this. It is trusting him to take care of us as we live in a wicked and uncertain world. It is depending on him to solve our problems. It is relying on him to give us wisdom to make the right decisions. It is based on trust from the beginning to the end.

O God, my heavenly Father, open my eyes to your goodness and open my heart to trust you more. Help me dwell more and more on you, on your majesty, and on your marvelous love. Help me show my trust, my faith, and my devotion by being what you want me to be and therefore, doing what you want me to do. Keep me from being selfish so I will always consider others, their needs, and their feelings in all I do and all I say. Be with your people, wherever, especially be with those who daily face persecution for their faith. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
