Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:18-22

Ps 102:18-22

Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord: "The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death." So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the Lord.

Luke 8:38-39

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, "Return home and tell how much God has done for you." So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.

Go tell everyone how much God has done for you! Just imagine what would happen in our world if all of us who profess to be the children of God would do this! For many of us we were raised by parents who loved the Lord and we have always been taught right from wrong. We grew up and became Christians but somehow never really realized just how much the Lord has done for us.

It is not for me to judge the hearts of anyone, we will leave that to the Lord. It does seem in my experience that some folks have been converted more to a church and what it teaches than they have to Christ and what he has done. For others it seems they have been converted to religion in general and that somehow being a part of this gives them a feeling of security. Their faith is misplaced.

Knowledge, even knowledge of the truth, does not save us. Knowledge just makes the one who has it proud, so they trust in themselves. The church, no matter how right it is, will not save us. The church (in the purest Biblical sense) is still made up of people whom God has saved, but people who are fallible and who still sin. Our faith must not rest in people, their rules, or their interpretation of Scripture.

Our faith must be in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who died for our sins and was raised for our justification. We put our trust in God who made us and who knows best how to direct us. This faith is shown as we rely on him for all things. By his grace he blesses us. We need to tell others what he has done for us in Christ!

O Lord God, help me remember that being your child means that I am to show others Jesus living in me, all day, every day and that I am to tell others what you have done for me. Fill me with your Spirit so I can love others, show mercy to others, and forgive others, even as you love me and have forgiven me in Christ Jesus. Increase my faith so I will count it all joy when I face various trials and so that I can rejoice always. I am weak but you are strong! Use me to accomplish what you want me to do, so you receive all of the glory. In Jesus name.
