Daily Devotional: Psalms 101:1-8

Ps 101:1-8

I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will sing praise. I will be careful to lead a blameless life — when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart. I will set before my eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not cling to me. Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil. Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure. My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me. No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence. Every morning I will put to silence all the wicked in the land; I will cut off every evildoer from the city of the Lord.

Rom 12:9-11

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

We live in a world that is filled with evil and wicked people. There are people all around us that have no regard for God and who refuse to listen to his word. How are we to react to this? Paul said we have to be in this world, but we do not have to be like the world. John tells us not to love the world or the things in the world because all of these will pass away, but the man of God will live forever.

Jeremiah said of the people living under the good King Josiah that they were serving God in action, but it was actually pretense. Their heart was not in their worship. Jesus described the religious leaders of his day by saying that they worshipped with their lips, but their heart was far from God. Jesus told the woman at the well that we are to worship in spirit and in truth. This means we worship God with all that is in us – from the bottom of our heart.

O Lord give me a pure heart, a true heart, a heart of devotion to you. Help me honor Jesus in everything I do and all that I say. Give me an attitude of joy, and love so I can show your love to others. Give your peace to those who are taking treatments and those who are awaiting surgery and those who are recovering from past procedures. Thank you for your love, your goodness, your grace, and for all you do for me every day. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
