Daily Devotional: Psalms 98:1-9

Ps 98:1-9

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn — shout for joy before the Lord, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.

1 Thess 5:16-18

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

What a blessing to be a child of God! All spiritual blessings are to be found in Christ Jesus our Lord! When we weigh our troubles against our blessings, we should be ashamed to ever complain or grumble. The children of Israel were punished more than once for their grumbling. They (like us) got tired of their troubles, their food, their journey and other things but they had been freed from their slavery and should have been grateful instead of complaining.

One of the greatest blessings on earth is the fellowship of others who love the Lord and serve him along with us. As members of the same family, we should have a love for each other that transcends earthly relationships. We cry with each other, we rejoice with each other, we lift each other when needed, and then at times we correct each other as we all seek to do the will of the Lord.

We sing praises to God, and we extol the name of Jesus because he has saved us from our sin. In him we have a brother who cares for us and who will see to our needs as he intercedes to the Father. In Christ we have the Spirit living in us to help us and strengthen us. Rejoice in the Lord always because he is near to us.

O Lord God, give me a heart of joy and thanksgiving. Remind me of the times you have helped me, delivered me, and supplied my needs, even when I saw no hope at the time. You have extended your grace to me in more ways than I can ever count or even know. In return for your love and your kindness shown to me, help me have a pure heart that is devoted to doing your will. Give peace and healing to those who are sick or hurting and are struggling. Be with the leaders of our nation so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness. In Jesus name.
