Daily Devotional: Psalms 94:16-23

Ps 94:16-23

Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? Unless the Lord had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, "My foot is slipping," your love, O Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Can a corrupt throne be allied with you — one that brings on misery by its decrees? They band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. But the Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God will destroy them.

2 Cor 1:9-11

Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

Delivered from the sentence of death! The doctor came in and said that all we could do was pray and wait. Her fate would be determined in the next 18 hours, either she would make a turn for better, or she would die. That was many years ago and she is still with me. God answered many prayers. This is only one of several times in our lives that we have both faced the sentence of death, but praise God, he has given life, life to both of us! We learned to trust him!

However, there have also been times when we walked the floor and prayed, but the one we loved so dearly did not live. Where was God then? Did he not hear our cry? Did he hear but not care? Can we really trust him to give us what we ask?

The answer is “YES!”. And it is YES without a doubt! He knows what is best and he will always give us what we need to make us better people by increasing our faith.

Adversity teaches us to trust him. Accepting the pain without knowing why it is happening is the very definition of faith. It is the evidence of things not seen.

O Lord, there have been times when I have walked through some dark places in my life, but you have always been with me and held my hand. Thank you for being with me. There have been times that I gave in to temptations, but you forgave me and restored my soul. You have been better to me than I deserve, in more ways than I can count, my cup overflows. You have used what I thought at the time to be some of the worst things possible, for my good. Use me to help others and encourage them to trust you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
