Daily Devotional: Psalms 77:16-20

Ps 77:16-20

The waters saw you, O God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed. The clouds poured down water, the skies resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth. Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen. You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

1 Cor 10:11-13

These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Someone has said that if we fail to learn from history, we are destined to repeat it. This is true in our daily lives. This is why many people make the same mistakes repeatedly, and then get the same results repeatedly, and wonder why. It is true in things as simple as what or how much we eat, or exercise, or reading, or studying. It is seen daily in government as well as religion. Adverse social behavior is often a problem, but the cause of the behavior is never addressed.

God gave us some pretty simple principles to live by. The result of living a life of sin is going to be eternal separation from him, spiritual death. On the other hand, if we give him our life and live for him, according to his Word, he has promised to take care of us in this life and then give us eternal life in his glorious presence.

This requires faith on our part. Faith is the basis of hope. We firmly believe in that which we have not seen with our physical eyes or heard with our ears. But it is not blindly believing. It is looking at the evidence that declares the existence and the glory of God and then putting our trust in him. We have physical evidence of God all around us in every part our existence. There is nothing in the physical world that does not declare divine intelligence coupled with indisputable logic.

O God, my heavenly Father, it is such a blessing to be your child and to know that you love me with a love that is indescribable. You have blessed me physically and materially in ways that I never dreamed would be possible. You have given me a loving wife and a wonderful family, far beyond what I deserve. I ask you to be with them and guide them in your steps. Thank you for being with my wife in her battle against cancer and for helping her get stronger each day. In Jesus name.
