Daily Devotional: Psalms 30:1-12

Ps 30:1-12

I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning.

When I felt secure, I said, "I will never be shaken." O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. To you, O LORD, I called; to the Lord I cried for mercy: "What gain is there in my destruction, in my going down into the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness? Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help." You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.

We all have times in our lives that are rough. We all have sickness at times, we all have times of sorrow, and times when we are anxious, but we also have times when we rejoice, when we are healed and times of jubilance. We have all had times when we ask why this has happened to me or why does God allow this or what have I done to cause this. This is called life and we all have our part in it.

God sends his rain on the just and on the unjust. Solomon says there is a thing called time and chance, and this happens to all of us – we are in the right place at the right time or we are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Life happens.

But there are times these things happen, and it is because we have made a poor decision in our life, or it is because we have done something wrong. It may be that God is punishing us or it may be that God is testing us or it may be that He is using this to make us stronger or to prepare us for some special work. The problem for us is that we do not usually know at the time “why” this is happening. But we can know what we must do with it. We trust God. We trust his goodness. We trust his faithfulness, his love, his compassion, his mercy, and his grace. When we trust him without reservation, he will use whatever is happening for our good.

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, you are so wonderful to me and you have blessed me so abundantly. You have lifted me from the pit when I could see no way for me to get out. You have provided for me when there was no hope. You have given me friends when I felt that I had none. Your grace to me is beyond my ability to really know and for this, I give you thanks and I praise your name. Use me to help someone be faithful to you. I pray in the blessed name of Jesus.
