Daily Devotional: Psalms 11:1-7

Ps 11:1-7

In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; upright men will see his face.

2 Tim 2:11-13

Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

I can remember, as a parent, watching over my son when he was young, yet he never knew I was there. He did not see or hear me. At times I allowed him to make some mistakes in judgment so he would learn some valuable life lessons, but at other times, I intervened for his safety or his good. He is my son, and even as a grown man, I still care about him and want to protect him from harm.

How much more our heavenly Father watches over us. We do not see or hear him, but he is always there watching over us. He allows us to make some pretty foolish decisions and do some things that teach us valuable lessons, but also at times, he intervenes and keeps us from harm or going into evil. He loves us!

As a parent, I was not always present with my son. I often made mistakes in the way I did or said things to him, even though my heart was right toward him and his well-being. God is always with us. Paul said that we are not to worry about anything but rather, we are to pray about everything, because the Lord is near. He is constant, sure, and unchangeable. Even when we lose our faith (even if only momentarily), he is still faithful because his nature is such and he cannot contradict his nature. We serve an awesome God who loves us, always!

My Father in heaven, you are an awesome God who reigns over all the earth. Help me give the honor and glory to Jesus in all I do and say. Give me a pure heart, one that wants to serve, even as Jesus served here on earth. Help me open my heart to the bidding and work of your Spirit, so his fruit will grow in my life and others will see Jesus living in me. Increase my faith and fill my heart with your joy and peace. Help me encourage those who are struggling and give them your peace as they trust in you. Forgive me when I fail. I pray in the name of Jesus.
