Daily Devotional: Psalms 136:1-9

Ps 136:1-9

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods. His love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords: His love endures forever. to him who alone does great wonders, His love endures forever. who by his understanding made the heavens, His love endures forever. who spread out the earth upon the waters, His love endures forever. who made the great lights-- His love endures forever. the sun to govern the day, His love endures forever. the moon and stars to govern the night; His love endures forever.

John 1:1-5

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

God made us and he loves us. God made the earth and he said that all he made was good. The world in its original form as made by God was free from sin, so it was also free from all of the trouble we know today. In the Garden, there was both physical and spiritual bliss, as Adam and Eve were in open fellowship with God. In the cool of the day, he would come and walk and talk with them.

It was when they spurned the love of God and openly defied him that the curse was put on the earth, as well as on each of them. Satan won the battle and now the earth had problems, life was filled with pain and sorrow, and all of mankind had (has) to face death. Sin and death reign and we all deal with both daily.

But thanks be to God, in Christ Jesus we are not subject to the law of sin and death, so there is no condemnation to those who are in him! His love endures forever because God is love. In his love he has found a way to win the war against Satan, even though so many of his creation give in to him. When Jesus came forth from the grave, he declared victory over sin and the worst weapon of the devil, that is death. In Jesus Christ we can live forever, in fellowship with God!

Hallelujah Lord God, what a blessing to be your child and to know that you have forgiven me of my sin! I know that I still sin and I know that you are willing to still forgive me, but I ask you to help me be stronger each day and more like Jesus, so instead of forgiveness, I offer myself as an acceptable sacrifice to you. Lord, be with our nation, be with our leaders and give them your wisdom. Even more, I ask you to control our elections each time and give us leaders that will respect you as God so we can live in peace. To you I give glory in the name of Jesus.
