Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:10-18

Ps 118:10-18

All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off. I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me. The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right hand has done mighty things!" I will not die but live and will proclaim what the LORD has done. The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death.

Heb 10:36-39

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.

What a blessing to be a child of God and to know that when this life is over, we will be able to live with him in eternity. As our small minds try to grasp the glory of God and try to see him in his majesty, we are overwhelmed by it, but we can still believe it will become reality for us. We do not have to live in fear or doubt because we know that we are saved by his grace as we seek to live for him.

As we live in the good news of Jesus, we must be willing to share it with others who do not know him. We need to show them his love, his compassion, his mercy, and his grace in our lives. This begins with a simple act of kindness in our words or in some small deed we do to help someone, or just a smile. By being kind we can lift a load from one who is struggling or brighten their dark day.

This kind of attitude and behavior is summed up in the words of Jesus when he said we are to treat others the way we want to be treated. Just as God is good to us, we should look for opportunities to be kind, polite, and helpful, giving a sincere compliment or showing our thanks to those who have been good to us.

Heavenly Father, I am thankful for your kindness and your love shown to me in so many ways. I am thankful for your grace. Thank you for allowing me to serve you by serving others around me. Help me always have a servant attitude so I can be more like Jesus every day. Keep me from being selfish but help me remember to treat others as more important than myself, and to look out for their interests ahead of my own. Empower me to do your will today. In Jesus name.
