Daily Devotional: Psalms 111:1-10

Ps 111:1-10

Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever. He has shown his people the power of his works, giving them the lands of other nations. The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy. They are steadfast for ever and ever, done in faithfulness and uprightness. He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever--holy and awesome is his name. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Phil 4:4-5

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

What a joy to serve the Lord. His ways are wonderful and by following his will, we find peace and joy in our lives. One of the unalienable rights listed in the Declaration of Independence, is the pursuit of happiness. The truth is that the more we pursue happiness, the less we actually find it. True happiness is not a destination but is a way of traveling. We choose to rejoice in the Lord always.

But why not rejoice in him? He is near to his own, always near to us. This means when we are lonely, he will sit next to us and listen to us. When we are hurting, he will hold us in his arms and share our hurts. When we are scared, he will hold our hand and walk beside us. By faith, we feel his presence and we hear him whisper in our ear that all is well and he has things under control.

Life is about the battle between good and evil. This battle is going on in the society in which we live but in many other fronts as well. There is the constant battle that goes on in our homes with the priorities we set. There is the pull of evil in our hearts and the tug of love from the Savior. Joy is found in victory, and the victory is only found in Jesus Christ. In him we are more than conquerors.

Thank you O Lord God Almighty for your love and your kindness shown to me in your grace. You have provided my every need and you continue to lift me up when I get down and when things are tough. Give me wisdom to know when to speak, what to say, and also when to keep silent and just listen. Use me in your service where and how you want me to be used. I ask you to give your peace and your joy to those who are hurting and are troubled. I pray in the name of Jesus.
