Daily Devotional: Psalms 46:1-11

Ps 46:1-11

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, 3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah 4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. 5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. 6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. 7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 8 Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. 10 "Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." 11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah

Have you ever found yourself saying that you believe in God, “but” and then you add some reason why you are not sure God can or will do whatever? Verse ten of our text is saying for us to just relax because God has everything under control and he will take care of it all. This means that he knows about the virus and that it will not infect a single person without his knowledge. God is in control of the nations and that includes China, the United States, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Russia and every other nation in the world. He gives them power and he takes it away.

When our heart is in turmoil or we are deeply grieved or everything in our lives seems to be falling apart, we can trust in God without any “but” or doubt. With faith in God, we can find joy beyond compare and peace unexplainable. God loves you and cares about you and he wants to help you have a wonderful day.

Read again what Paul said: Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Heavenly Father it is such a blessing to be your child and under your care. There are some today who are anxiously awaiting news from those they love, some are in deep grief because those they love have left this world, some are worried over what might happen with the COVID virus. Help them put their trust in you and know that you love them and you are taking care of them. Use me to say some kind word or encourage them in their faith. Give us leaders in the world who will trust you and seek to follow your will. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
