Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:46-50

Ps 18:46-50

46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! 47 He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, 48 who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from violent men you rescued me. 49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD; I will sing praises to your name. 50 He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever.

Eph 1:2-3

2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.

We recently spent a Sunday evening service singing. I could not help but think how blessed we were to have this opportunity to be with others who love the Lord and to spend an hour singing together. Only two days before this, we were invited to meet with a small group in the home of a friend and we spent a whole evening singing together. Again, what a blessing to be able to do this.

Not only did we sing together but we freely shook hands and hugged each other, without any fear. What a blessing indeed to be able to share (fellowship) with one another, to express our mutual love and our love for God. I could not help but think how much we missed over the last year and what potential damage this lack of being together had caused. While online services are convenient and provide a “togetherness” that is better than nothing, it is not the same as meeting as one.

Our meeting and our singing is only a small part of the blessings we have in Jesus Christ. Do we count our blessings? Do we express our thanks to God and give praise to his name? The very fact that we have others around us who love the Lord and who want to help us go to heaven is a huge blessing. To know that there are others who care for us and will pray with us and for us is a blessing indeed. It is so peaceful to go to bed at night with a clear conscience because we know we have been forgiven. And then we awake to face a day with the promise that God will be with us, protect us and provide our every need. Praise the Lord!

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth. You are worthy of honor and glory. Instill in me a more keen awareness of your majesty and your power, your wisdom and your glory. You alone are flawless in every action and judgment and yet, you love me and forgive my weakness and my sin. Thank you. Use me in your service to share the love of Jesus and to encourage those who are seeking to serve you. Give your peace and healing to those who are sick, taking treatments and facing surgery. I pray in the name of Jesus.
