Daily Devotional: Psalms 6:6-10

Ps 6:6-10

6 I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. 7 My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes. 8 Away from me, all you who do evil, for the LORD has heard my weeping. 9 The LORD has heard my cry for mercy; the LORD accepts my prayer. 10 All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed; they will turn back in sudden disgrace.

1 John 5:3-5

3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

We are all human. That means we are a part of the crowning touch of God’s creation, at the top of his list. We are endowed with abilities beyond all the rest of what he created. We have intelligence and conscience that the animals do not possess. In addition to this, we are made to be immortal. In the plan of God, we are designed to live forever and to be in a special relationship with him.

In the book of Genesis we are told that when God had finished his creation that he said that it all was very good. He placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and gave them all they needed for a perfect life. There was no sickness and they were in perfect harmony with all the plants and animals that God had made. It was their job to keep and dress the garden. The only restriction given to them was that they were not to eat the fruit of one particular tree. Now that is simple.

Because of their sin, our lives are not so simple today. Our place in this world is never as blissful as was the garden where they lived. We face all kinds of disease and sickness. We have to deal with problems and heartaches. We are around all kinds of immorality and ungodliness. But in it all, we can overcome the world when we put our faith in Jesus Christ. When we love God above this world and the things of the world, we will obey his commands and live for him. So, no matter what we face, we can hold the hand of God and make it through.

O Lord God it is such a privilege to belong to you and to know that you love me and want the best for me. I know that often I am my own worst enemy because I allow my desires to rule my heart instead of following your will. I let my pride get in the way of serving others and serving you. While I know that one day, I will face death in this life, I also know that then I will live forever with you. Help me always remember that this is what my life is all about, living with you. Use me to help others serve you and live for you. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
