Daily Devotional: Psalms 127:1-5

Ps 127:1-5

1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat--for he grants sleep to those he loves. 3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Acts 5:38-39

38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. 39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God."

When Noah built the ark, it is said that he built it according to the plan that God had given him. He then followed the instructions given to him by God in gathering the animals for the trip. It is also said that Moses built the tabernacle according to the plan that God gave him in the mountain. He also followed God’s plan in making the furniture and utensils that went inside the tabernacle. In both cases, God blessed their efforts and showed them he was pleased with their work.

God has told us what he wants from us in our personal lives. When we follow his plan, we will be blessed. But when we devise our own plans or we “improve” on what he has given us, we will find that we are without his blessings. He made us and he knows what is best for us. He wants us to be filled with his joy. He wants us to live lives of peace and be at harmony with those around us. He wants us to be surrounded with our families and to enjoy the love that abounds.

God put Adam and Eve in a place that was perfect. They did not need to wear clothes, so that means the weather was always perfect. There were no rainy days or cloudy days or anything but nice warm sunshine. They were in harmony with each other and with the animals that lived around them. But they ruined God’s perfect place with their own desires and with sin. God always knows best.

Heavenly Father give me faith to trust you with my life. Lead me in the paths you want me to go and keep me from straying into my own ways. Use me to do what you want me to do and keep me from being selfish or lazy. Fill me with your love so I will always want to be like you and follow your will. Give me wisdom and give me strength to be all you want me to be. Lord be merciful to our nation and show our leaders that you are in control so they will follow your will and wisdom. Allow us to live peaceful and quiet lives for you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
