Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:89-96

Ps 119:89-96           Lamedh

89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. 94 Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. 95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. 96 To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless.

John 6:46-51

47 I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."

The truth never changes. What God has said and what Jesus revealed is truth and it will be the same forever. Only when we come to know Jesus in his fulness and we put our trust in him can we have eternal life. In doing this, we are eating the flesh and blood of Jesus. From one side of the equation, we are saved by the grace of God while on the other we are saved by our absolute faith in him.

The children of Israel were often warned about serving other gods and also about putting their trust in the nations around them or in horses or in chariots. No matter who or what they faced, they were to trust the Lord and he promised he would deliver them. But they did not put him first and they too often put their trust in the things of this world. God punished them repeatedly for this.

The wonderful thing about this is that God is faithful so we can always depend on him. This is why our faith responds in our obedience. We know that his way is best for us in every circumstance. His word furnishes us unto every good work and shows us the way to live like Jesus and to live for him. He is our God!

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your wonderful love and the grace you have extended to me in your Son. Thank you also for your grace that is given me in more ways than I can even know, in every day of my life. Give me a pure heart and an obedient spirit. Thank you for my physical family and all the joy they have given me and do give me. Thank you for my spiritual family and the continued encouragement I get from them. I ask you to be with so many who are suffering and grieving and others who are sick. I pray in the name of Jesus.
