Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:16-18

Ps 115:16-18

16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man. 17 It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to silence; 18 it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore. Praise the LORD.

1 Peter 4:7-11

8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

God is so good! We sing a song that says we are to count our many blessings and name them one by one. The more we enumerate them, the more they abound and come to mind. It is like trying to dig a hole to get the dirt of out your yard, the more you dig, the more dirt there is. As we become conscious of what God has done and is doing in our lives, the more we appreciate his abundant grace.

Praise God for his goodness! We give him thanks, even in times of trouble and even when we face trials because we know he is with us and will help us. Praise God and thank him for his way of escape from sin and guilt in our lives. What a blessing to know that our sins are forgiven and to rest in the assurance of his mercy and his grace! What peace is bestowed upon us when we consider all the blessings we have in Jesus Christ. To be free from the law of sin and death is the greatest blessing of all and yet so many fail to have the peace this affords.

We thank God and praise him that we can live for him. And the wonderful thing about serving God and doing his will is that it removes so many troubles that would come otherwise. When we are truthful, we never fear we will be caught in what we have said. When we are kind, we do not have to worry about hurting others. When we help or give to someone in need, we receive the greater blessing and more abundant joy. Living for Jesus is the greatest life we can live on earth.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for all you have done for me and all you do for me every day. By your grace I enjoy good health. By your mercies my life is filled with friends and family. Even when things seem to be all wrong and life is falling in on me, your word is the light that shows me the way and your Spirit is the power that keeps me going. Keep me from ever allowing the things of this world to get me down or to fill me with fear because the Spirit within me is greater than this world! Praise your holy name! My prayer is offered in Jesus name.
