Daily Devotional: Psalms 112:1-5

Ps 112:1-5

1 Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands. 2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. 5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.

Matt 6:30-32

30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

When I begin to talk about putting our trust in God and giving up worry, the reply will often be made that “you just don’t understand…”. Somehow, we think our life is different from everyone else. Our troubles are bigger than what others face or our problems are more severe or our pain is greater or – and the list goes on. We just do not have the faith we are supposed to have in God as our caregiver.

Remember that Paul said we are to pray about everything and then not worry about anything. That is because God can take care of everything. There is nothing so big or bad that God is unable to control it, stop it, heal it or overcome it. We can put our trust in him and know that all will be taken care of in our lives.

The other side of this is that for the most part, we can take care of nothing. If we do not have control, why do we worry about the outcome? We make our plans but we get sick and they have to be changed. We plan, but there is a car wreck or someone else gets involved or one of a thousand things happen and we do not do what we thought we had all worked out. We do not have control – God does.

So by prayer we turn it all over to God with thanksgiving because we know he will hear us and take care of us. We can thank him in advance because there is no doubt that he is able to supply our needs and carry us through.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be able to truly trust you and know that you will take care of all my needs and my problems. Give me faith to wait on you to act in your own time. Give me courage to do your will, even in a world that does not follow you or respect you as God. Lift me up when I fall and hold my hand as I walk through today. Wrap your arms around me and give me peace, even as my mother used to kiss my boo boo and make it better. Thank you for loving me. Use me to show that love to others, even today. I pray in the name of Jesus.
