Daily Devotional: Psalms 103:1-6

Ps 103:1-6

1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

Eph 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will- 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the one he loves.

We all face problems in our lives. In our youth we may think that we have life all figured out and we are so wonderfully blessed with good health. It is hard for us to imagine the pain and suffer that lies ahead of us. We get married and have children and we wonder how so many couples end up in divorce, but then we wake up one morning to find ourselves in the midst of marital problems. As we age, we begin to have health issues and pain is a constant companion for many or the things we did so easily before, we struggle to accomplish or we cannot do them at all. We then begin to come to grips with our mortality. Life is short.

But if we have lived for something bigger than ourselves and we have worked for that which cannot decay, rust or be stolen, we face the end of our life with the assurance that we have a crown awaiting us and we know we are going home to be with Jesus and our heavenly Father, the one who gave us this life. It is such a privilege to have been in the presence of several who face death with both dignity and with confidence that they are about to receive the greatest gift any person can imagine, eternal life in the very presence of Jesus and God Almighty! Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who saved us by his blood!

Heavenly Father it is such a wonderful privilege to be able to live every day of my life and know that there is something so much better waiting for me. Help me keep my eyes focused on Jesus and on my home above where he is seated at your right hand. Give me wisdom to use each moment of life wisely and to your glory in all I do and say. Keep me from being in love with the things of this world which are passing away but help me use all I have to honor you. Be with our nation and guide our elections so we can live in peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
