Daily Devotional: Psalms 97:7-12

Ps 97:7-12

7 All who worship images are put to shame, those who boast in idols--worship him, all you gods! 8 Zion hears and rejoices and the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments, O LORD. 9 For you, O LORD, are the Most High over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods. 10 Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. 11 Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. 12 Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous, and praise his holy name.

1 John 3:1-3

1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

You may not have heard but we are living in uncertain and troubling times. But one thing is certain and that is that God see us and knows our every need. There is nothing that is beyond the ability of Jesus to take care of in our lives or in the world around us. The worst virus or the most troubling civil problems are nothing to the one who designed and formed our bodies and who created society in the beginning. As his children, we have nothing about which to be troubled.

We are passing through this life as Abraham passed through Canaan. He lived each day as it came and trusted God that one day it would all belong to his children and to their descendants. While he never owned anything in Canaan but a field and a cave in which he buried his wife, he knew God would keep his word and would take care of him and those who came after him.

What does the future hold for our nation and for each of us? We do not know and it is probably best that we do not know. But what we do know is that our future is with the Lord in that day when we shall be made like him and live with forever.

Heavenly Father increase my faith and keep me from all worry. Fill me with your joy and your peace as I trust in you and in Jesus my Lord. Help me understand your word and your will for me and then give me strength to live it in all I do and all I say. Open my eyes to each opportunity you present and use me as your servant to help others in whatever way I can. Help me remember that all I have is yours and is only loaned to me for a while in order to honor your name. Be with our nation and our leaders as we face these uncertain times. Give them your wisdom. Guide our elections so we can live in peace. I pray in Jesus name.
