Daily Devotional: Psalms 92:1-8

Ps 92:1-8

1 It is good to praise the LORD and make music to your name, O Most High, 2 to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, 3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. 4 For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. 5 How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts! 6 The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand, 7 that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed. 8 But you, O LORD, are exalted forever.

1 Peter 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

Having lived under a physical king and in an earthly kingdom, it is easy to see why the Jews of Jesus’ day were looking for him to become a physical king and over-throw the Romans. This was a mistake the religious leaders made, the multitudes as well as the disciples. They could not see beyond this earth in their day.

Today we live in a spiritual kingdom and Jesus reigns now and forever! Praise his Holy Name! While we see all kinds of evil around us and we see a world filled with sin and turmoil, we can live in peace among ourselves and within. Jesus is Lord and he has already won the victory over Satan, over sin and over death by his resurrection. If we will be faithful to him then the victory is ours for sure.

What a joy and a blessing to be able to praise him in song and in our actions. We can stand tall in the midst of scorn because we are children of the heavenly Father and our big brother is King of kings! We must never be ashamed of him or his word, even if others should laugh or make fun of what we do and believe.

Heavenly Father it is such a privilege to be your child and to have the assurance that you are in control as Jesus reigns over everything. Give me faith to not be distracted by the things of this world, by the evil and turmoil or by the things of glamour and splendor. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and on the things above where he is seated at your right hand. Help me use every opportunity you give to help others physically, emotionally, as well as spiritually. Be with your people who are being persecuted for their faith. I pray in the name of Jesus my King.
