Daily Devotional: Psalms 78:49-55

Ps 78:49-55

49 He unleashed against them his hot anger, his wrath, indignation and hostility--a band of destroying angels. 50 He prepared a path for his anger; he did not spare them from death but gave them over to the plague. 51 He struck down all the firstborn of Egypt, the firstfruits of manhood in the tents of Ham. 52 But he brought his people out like a flock; he led them like sheep through the desert. 53 He guided them safely, so they were unafraid; but the sea engulfed their enemies. 54 Thus he brought them to the border of his holy land, to the hill country his right hand had taken. 55 He drove out nations before them and allotted their lands to them as an inheritance; he settled the tribes of Israel in their homes.

Rom 5:8-11

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! 10 For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!

God alone determines what is right and what is wrong. This is because morality and purity are the products of the very nature of God. God is love and he wants all of his creation to love and show that love for each other. God is merciful and he expects us to have compassion on those who need our mercies. God is a God of grace and sits on the throne of grace; therefore, the intends for each of his creation to have grace in our hearts toward others, even those whom we feel do not deserve it. God is no respecter of persons and we should not be either.

Having said all of this, the only person that I can change is me. I can let my little light shine and show others the love, the mercy, the grace and respect that God has shown me. In doing this I can attract others to Jesus and the new life in him so they too can reflect his light. In doing this, we can make our world a better place for everyone to live. For most of us our world consists of a few square miles or just a neighborhood. Are we changing our world for Jesus by the way we live?

Heavenly Father I am sad about the way our world and our nation are going. We as a people have neglected you and your commands. Injustice seems to be rising and not going away. Corrupt leaders spouting misinformation (lies) are leading so many into things that are contrary to your holy nature. Help me live my life in a way that shows your love, your mercy, your grace and respect for others. Give me wisdom to use every opportunity to share the gospel with the lost. Give wisdom to our leaders and those who influence others. I pray in the name of Jesus.
