Daily Devotional: Psalms 66:1-7

Ps 66:1-7

1 Shout with joy to God, all the earth! 2 Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! 3 Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. 4 All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah 5 Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf! 6 He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot--come, let us rejoice in him. 7 He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations--let not the rebellious rise up against him. Selah

John 17:6-9

6 "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.

What a joy to serve the living God who made us, who knows our every care and who loves us beyond words! What a blessing to be saved by the blood of Jesus, our Lord and our King! He has faced the same trials we face and he has overcome each of them for us. We belong to God and we belong to Jesus, his Son.

Our problems in life are real. Our struggles against sin are real. The doubt that clouds our minds is from the evil one but it is real to us at the time. The loneliness and grief that floods our soul when someone we love dies, is not only very real to us but often seems to be more than we can bear. Serving God does not mean that we will not face these things, it means he sustains us as we go through them.

For these reasons we face life with joy and a smile on our face, no matter what the circumstances that surround us. Even when we are persecuted in some way for our faith, we rejoice and praise God that we are counted worthy of suffering with Jesus our Lord. We know that we have the final victory in Jesus because he has already overcome sin and death by his resurrection from the grave.

O Lord God, it is such a joy to be your child and to realize that you know me and all I face in life every day. You see my weakness and are aware of my frailty. Keep me from making excuses when I fail to be all you want me to become. Help me focus on Jesus my Savior and to become more like him every day. Give me a pure heart that loves you above anything in this world. I know nothing is beyond your power so I ask you to stop the virus if it is your will. Bless the medical people who are trying to help and are facing death daily. I pray in the name of Jesus.
