Daily Devotional: Psalms 57:6-11

Ps 57:6-11

6 They spread a net for my feet--I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path--but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah 7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. 8 Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 9 I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

1 Thess 5:16-24

16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

I once knew a lady who had cancer but because of fear she refused to go to the doctor and get medical care. At first, she denied she had anything wrong but when it reached the stage of open sores, she just refused to get help. This is really sad because she could possibly have lived many more years in good health.

It is even more tragic that so many live in sin without the available healing of the Great Physician. They deny their condition, ignore their symptoms and refuse to apply the balm of forgiveness and salvation. It is sad because their lives on earth are filled with turmoil, worry and anxiousness, strife and bitterness with no hope of anything getting better. They see death as the only hope of release.

What they don’t see (or admit) is that there is a second death that is even more tragic than the first. The day is coming when they will confess Jesus as Lord and bow before Him as God. But it will be too late for their healing and eternal life.

This should motivate us to share the good news of peace and joy found in Jesus our Lord. They can have their sins forgiven and they can have a life of joy. God loves them and Jesus died for them so we like Jesus, should seek and save the lost. You and I have the cure for sin and we must share it with the world.

Heavenly Father motivate me and use me to share the good news of Jesus and your love more. Give me courage to open my mouth to tell the lost about your salvation and the freedom in Christ. Help me live in a way that others will see the joy and peace in my life and want it for themselves. Help me always adorn the gospel with my own good deeds and loving spirit. Forgive me when I fail. Give your wisdom to our Supreme Court justices. I pray in the name of Jesus.
