Daily Devotional: Psalms 49:10-15

Ps 49:10-15

10 For all can see that wise men die; the foolish and the senseless alike perish and leave their wealth to others. 11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after

themselves. 12 But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. 13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Selah 14 Like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them. The upright will rule over them in the morning; their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions. 15 But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself. Selah

Rom 6:22-23

22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Life is at times wonderful, filled with joy and all kinds of accomplishments. But life is hard, cruel and unfair at times too. Some of this is because of our outlook on life but much of it is just the reality of things. Wicked people prosper and seem to have everything going their way while those who are godly suffer. If this life is all there is, we have reason to wonder if it is worth it to serve the Lord.

But this life is not all there is! We are going to a place that is so beautiful that it cannot be described in words we can understand. A place so magnificent that God used pictures of streets paved with gold, gates of pearls and a river that looks like crystal glass. The light is from the presence of God and the glory of Jesus which shine brighter than the sun at noon. This is life and it is life indeed!

There will be no sickness, no disease, no suffering, no sorrow, tears or anxiety. It will be joy beyond measure as we praise the God who made us. There will be no time, no years, months or minutes. Yesterday will not exist and there will be no tomorrow. No more injustice to endure but all will be glory in the presence of the saints who have gone before us as we gather around the throne of God and sing praises to the Lamb who redeemed us. This is the gift of God worth living for!

O Lord God it is so wonderful to contemplate glory with you and Jesus. As I try to wrap my mind around your glory and the beauty of heaven, I stand in awe with nothing to say but Praise you Lord! Keep me from letting the things, the problems or the wickedness of this world get in my way from living for you. As our earth now is compared to heaven and comes up so short, so as I am compared to you and your glory, I come up so short. Forgive me and help me become like you. Use me where you want me, to do what you want. I pray in Jesus name.
