Daily Devotional: Psalms 45:13-17

Ps 45:13-17

13 All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold. 14 In embroidered garments she is led to the king; her virgin companions follow her and are brought to you. 15 They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king. 16 Your sons will take the place of your fathers; you will make them princes throughout the land. 17 I will perpetuate your memory through all generations; therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.

Rev 3:19-21

19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

What does it mean to overcome? How can we overcome the world and all of the evil that is so prevalent? Is it really possible for us, as mere humans, to overcome sin and the power of Satan? The answer is yes, we are more than conquerors through Jesus Christ our Lord! This is made possible as we stand in the strength of his might and put on his whole armor to take our stand and fight the devil.

When we fail, when we give in to sin, when we allow temptations to overcome us in our daily lives, we still have hope. There will be times that we come short of the glory of God. We fail to live up to the standard set by our Savior. But he is just that, he is our Savior and saves us from our sin. He gives us a new start in life.

When we become a Christian, a child of God, we are washed clean by the blood of Jesus our Lord who gave himself as a sacrifice for our sin. Paul says that when we are raised up from the grave of baptism, our sins are forgiven and we become a new person in Jesus Christ. Peter says we start out as babies in Christ but we are to grow into spiritual maturity and to become partakers of the divine nature. The Spirit lives in us and the result (or fruit) of this is that we gradually grow into his likeness. Meanwhile, the blood of Jesus continues to cleanse us from all sin.

Lord God instill in me a hatred for sin of every kind and a genuine love for all that is right, holy and good. Thank you for allowing me to be your child, a part of your family. Help me always honor you in all I do and say. Forgive me when I fail. Thank you for the many fellow Christians who encourage me and help me grow closer to you. I am so thankful for the many things I have been given to enjoy but keep me from consuming all this on my own desires. Open my eyes to use what I have to help others and to share with those in need. I pray in the name of Jesus.
