Daily Devotional: Psalms 36:7-12

Ps 36:7-12

7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen--thrown down, not able to rise!

John 4:9-10

9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."

Jesus is the light of the world. Jesus gives living water. Jesus is the Word of God, he is truth, he is the way because he is the revelation of God on earth. All things are his because he made all that has been made and he sustains it with his mighty word. Jesus is the door that is open to all who will come to God through him but he is the shepherd that protects his own from those who deceive and destroy them. The shepherd knows his sheep and they know his voice because he always protects them and feeds them. Jesus is our High Priest and he is our mediator.

But the Son of God gave up the glories of heaven to become the Son of man and become one of us. He is our brother in the flesh and he is our friend. As one of us he has faced everything we face in life and trusted God to deliver him in it all. He was tempted just as we are tempted, yet he lived without sin. He has been beaten and maligned, tortured and mocked and eventually hung on a cross to die.

He died as one of us as an atonement for our sin. He became sin for us so that we might live in him. He was raised from the grave to live and never die again. By his resurrection, he conquered death and took away the fear of death for all who will trust him and live for him. God’s love perfected in us takes away all fear.

Heavenly Father it is such a blessing to be in your family. What a joy to know that my sins are forgiven and forever removed from your record. What a privilege to be the brother of Jesus and to know that there is an inheritance waiting for me when this life is over. But not just an inheritance of things but a crown of life and glory that is beyond compare with anything I even know or imagine. Help me do what needs to be done to serve you and serve others and keep me from putting off what I need to do today. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and Savior.
