Daily Devotional: Psalms 22:19-24

Ps 22:19-24

19 But you, O LORD, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. 20 Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs. 21 Rescue me from the mouth of the lions; save me from the horns of the wild oxen. 22 I will declare your name to my brothers; in the congregation I will praise you. 23 You who fear the LORD, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help.

Phil 4:4-7

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The God of heaven and earth and his Son, the Savior of the world, actually hear us when we call to him! When we are in distress and we turn to him with our cares and all of our troubles, the Lord is near! Worry is the opposite of faith. Let that sink in and then we realize that the child of God has no reason to worry about anything that happens to us or that we think might happen to us.

When we turn all of our cares over to Jesus and we trust in the Lord, we have a peace that is so great that it cannot be put into words. This doesn’t mean we will get well or our loved one will live. It doesn’t mean that an accident will never happen or all of our plans will go uninterrupted. It means God will use whatever happens in our lives to help get us ready to be with him in eternity.

Life is not about now. Success is not measured in dollars or promotions. Serving Jesus does not mean we will never face persecution or have problems but it means he is always near and will never allow us to fall when we trust him. Peter could not sink while holding the hand of his Lord and we cannot be separated from the love of God as long as his hand is in ours and we trust in him.

Hear me when I call, O God my righteousness, unto thee I come in weakness and distress. Hold my trembling hand, lest helpless I should fall. O hear me, Lord hear me. O hear me when I call. Hear my voice O God and cleanse my soul within. Mercy do I need for all my doubts and sin. Only in thy grace I trust my all in all. O hear me Lord, hear me. O hear me when I call. (Song by Tillit Teddlie) I praise you for loving me and for always being near to me. Use me to be a blessing to others and to honor you in all I do and say. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
