Daily Devotional: Psalms 135:1-7

Ps 135:1-7

1 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, 2 you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. 3 Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. 4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession. 5 I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. 6 The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. 7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his treasuries.

Rom 9:18-21

18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. 19 One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" 20 But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?'" 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use?

In my few years on earth I have seen several doomsday events where people believed that the world was coming to an end. In almost every case it was based on something mankind was doing or not doing. While we are to be good stewards of the earth that God has made, the fact is that we are not going to destroy it or bring it to an end. We may, in our apathy or ignorance or even in our wisdom, change the earth to some small degree, but only when God decides to destroy it will it happen. When he makes that choice, we will not be able to stop it.

The Lord does whatever pleases him. (period!) The only limitation with what God does is his perfect nature. God cannot lie because he is truth. God cannot do evil or tempt us to do evil because he is holy and good. Just because we are finite and do not understand God does not limit him to our thinking. God determines what is good and not us. He declares what is righteous, morally right and what is holy and we are to accept his will without argument. What I like, what I think or how I feel does not alter what God says and therefore how it really is. The Lord is God!

Heavenly Father I am thankful for your infinite wisdom, your unspeakable glory and majesty and your boundless love. I need your wisdom every day so I can seek to be like you in love. Increase my faith to trust you as God, as the creator and the sustainer of all things in heaven and on earth and the source of all blessings in my life. Give me strength to follow your will for every part of my life. Give wisdom to the leaders of our nation and guide them to follow your will for us so that we may live in peace. I pray to you in the name of Jesus, my Lord and my King.
