Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:89-96

Ps 119:89-96                       Lamedh

89 Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. 91 Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life. 94 Save me, for I am yours; I have sought out your precepts. 95 The wicked are waiting to destroy me, but I will ponder your statutes. 96 To all perfection I see a limit; but your commands are boundless.

John 15:9-11

9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.

What a joy to serve God in Jesus Christ! By giving our lives to Jesus we are free from all of the problems that are brought on by sin. The heartaches, the doubting and all of the disappointments that come from following the lusts of this world are gone. This does not mean we will not be tempted or that we will not face any more trials. Satan will do all he can to make our lives difficult and will give us burdens to bear but in it all we will have the strength of God so we can endure.

We also have the promise of his protection to keep us from ever having to face more than we can overcome in Christ. God has never promised to take away our load but has promised to give us strength and help to bear it.

We have the peace of God in our hearts. We can rejoice, even in our trials, as we live in assurance that we have the victory in Jesus Christ. Our joy is not based on our circumstances in life but on our faith in the promises of God. This is one of the reasons we are to study his word. The more we know God, the more we will be able to imitate Jesus in our attitudes and in our actions. The more we learn, the greater our faith in his faithfulness to us and his love for us.

Heavenly Father thank you for your love for me and for your faithfulness. As I see your majesty more and more, I am impressed with just how small I am in the scheme of eternity. Your holiness fills me with reverence toward you and toward your word. It is with awe that I come to you in assurance that you know who I am and you actually care about me and my life. Thank you for your Son who died in my place, for my sin but who has now been raised to live with you. Thank you for the assurance this gives me that I will also be raised to live with you in eternity and that this world is not my home. I pray in the name of Jesus.
